THE LAUREL WEST

The Millennial generation suddenly grew up, and this commercial client created a place for them to live.

Laurel West has a lot to offer the accomplished Millennial. It’s just minutes from downtown, trendy West End and great parks. Appearances, however, placed the property somewhere in the 80s. We felt it was critical to create an all-important first impression and did so with a feature wall that leverages the warmth of natural wood accented with a touch of cool, contemporary metal. It sends a clear message that Laurel West is a luxurious and a sophisticated address. What was a dark, forgotten corner is now bathed in light and offers a built-in bench. It’s a cozy place to wait for friends, read the mail or just relax.

It seems every project comes with an albatross…a structural component or some other element that requires an extra dose of creative problem solving. At Laurel West, our albatross came in the form of support beams that separate the elevator lobby from the entry. We incorporated the beams by wrapping them in tile, adding a touch of classic modern and placing a bench between the supports, as though that were the intention all along. And because the supports run through the entire building, we kept the theme,  giving each floor a custom bench of its own.

From stodgy to show-stopping, the Laurel West entry and common areas came to life with a little vision from Marceau.
